Chicago Alternative Comics Expo: Breathing new life into an old form

Comics are great, but they haven’t been just superheroes and villains in quite some time. Some of the best contemporary comics are about complicated adult romances, internal battles, or ethical quandaries.

The possibilities are endless, and the comic medium adds even more dimension to the form, which will make the second annual Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (a.k.a. CAKE) a rather interesting place to walk around and observe. The expo is taking place on June 15 and 16 at the Center on Halsted in Lakeview and will feature artists, writers, and publishing groups of all sizes from around the country, including big names like Chris Ware and Deb Sokolow. Visit the CAKE website for more details.
