WTF? Wednesday: Folk-metal fanatics Trollfest brutalize Britney Spears’s “Toxic”

When you’re listening to Norwegian metal, do you ever think to yourself, “I’m actually beginning to understand these vocals; I wish there was a band out there who would sing in some sort of fictional language, so I would feel completely lost in the fantasy they’ve created”?

Enter Trollfest.

A folk-metal band from Norway, the group takes things less than seriously, with songs performed in Trollspråk, a mix of German and Norwegian. Now, on an upcoming 10th-anniversary picture disc, the band has chosen to cover a modern classic, Britney Spears’s “Toxic.”

The video features an unholy fusion of little-person headbanging, top-40 pop, and brutal, bearded growls over tiny instruments. The band members appear as distorted dwarves, each one infusing the song with more earnestness and enjoyment than Britney arguably has in her entire career. Check it out below and then listen to the band’s brand-new album, one of our favorites of this week.
