100 Unheralded Albums from 2010

Among the thousands of under-appreciated or under-publicized albums that were released in 2010, hundreds became our favorites and were presented in ALARM and on AlarmPress.com.  Of those, we pared down to 100 outstanding releases — from the progressive-industrial madness of Norway’s Shining to the folk-hop rhymes of Sage Francis to the orchestral Italian oldies of Mike Patton‘s Mondo Cane project.

As usual, ALARM leaves no genre unexplored in our list of this year’s overlooked gems.

Mexicans with Guns’ video for “Dame Lo”

Native San Antonian producer Ernest Gonzales releases his harder-hitting material and Mexicans with Guns, and he has just made public the video for his enticing club hit “Dame Lo.” Produced, directed, and edited by Ðueý FṀ (a.k.a. System D-128), the video takes the form of a short experimental film.

Mexicans with Guns also has combined with Toy Selectah (aka Toy Hernandez) to create the dance remix of “Me Gusto,” featuring Chico Man.  The collaborations continue with Berlin’s Robot Koch, who will be featured alongside artists like Free the Robots (Alpha Pup), Lunice (Lucky Me), Mux Mool (Ghostly), Salva (Frite Nite), Alex B (Elm&Oak), and King Cannibal (Ninja Tune) on Friends of Friends’ mix album Volume 3 out October 5, 2010 digitally and on limited-edition vinyl.

Seattle’s Decibel Festival announces massive lineup

Seattle’s Decibel Festival is back for its eighth year, this time boasting talent from 14 countries. The festival brings together technology and creativity through visual art, workshops, panel discussions, and electronic-music performances.

The musical lineup this year is long and impressive; Fennesz, Ben Frost, Eskmo, Alex B, Ctrl_Alt_Dlt, Mount Kimbie, and Starkey are among the nearly 100 performers, speakers, and visual artists scheduled for appearance.  With a world-class conference included (details have yet to be released), this event is an oasis of underground electronic music and art with plenty to offer.
