You would be hard-pressed to find a review of a Julie Doiron record that does not make mention of how dark and hauntingly beautiful sounding her records are. There’s good reason to mention this since Julie Doiron stands out as one of the best Singer/Songwriters in North America.
Not only does she have an exceptionally beautifully melancholy voice but her guitar work and songwriting abilities are both top notch. When all added together these elements make for records that completely envelop you in their mood, making you feel sad and lonely and then comforting you at the same time.
The twelve tracks that make up Goodnight Nobody are without a doubt her finest yet, lyrically, vocally and musically. As Doiron writes on the inside of the artwork, “Dedicated to all those who have loved and lost, and loved again”, you get the feeling that this lady is all about the duality of sorrow and hope, and making both emotions sound fucking brilliantly beautiful.
