The Skygreen Leopards: Jehova Surrender

The Skygreen Leopards - Jehova SurrenderThis record is fucking sick. Donovan Quinn and Glenn Donaldson are geniuses. This is the album that Brian Jonestown Massacre should have made, instead of the crappy one they just put out. Amon Duul are freaking out on this.

Okay, for real, this will be one of my favorite records for a while, this is pure American psychedelia at its best, complete with ringing 12-string guitars, lilting harmonies, Fender Rhodes keyboards, and trippy effect pedals. The songs have titles like “Apparitions of the Suns (a.k.a. The Ferryman’s Long Arms)”, and “Julie-Anne, Patron of Thieves.”

I have no idea what dude is singing most of the time because even the vocals have weird effects on them, but they seem to be used as instruments rather than to relay specific ideas. This record will put your mind into a state of lulling bliss without you realizing that you are just sitting there with your eyes closed, swaying to the music, so enveloped in the song.

Then the next song starts and you’ll open your eyes to find out the name of it and realize you are not doing what you were doing before. Does that make sense? If you listen to Jehova Surrender, it will. If you listen to Warlocks, Outcrowd, or BJM, run and get this album as fast as you can.
