Bosque Brown: Cerro Verde

Bosque Brown - Cerro Verde The sophomore EP from Texas’ Bosque Brown (a royal sounding moniker behind which Mara Lee Miller resides) is a touching and soft, yet short sampling of her small town folk songs.

Such as many contemporary American folk artists, Miller seems displaced in time, if not place, from an era where things were simpler and music was quieter. These four songs play out much too quickly, almost to the point of self-defeat. It’s as though Miller’s music is telling me to sit down and pay attention, to take my time and enjoy it, and before I know it, the disc ends.

This EP shows promise of a more substantial release in the works, but even on its own, fans of contemporary American folk music can’t fare better than the soft, lush sounds of Bosque Brown.
