Activist afrobeat collective Antibalas continues to demonstrate the essence of its, as the translation goes, “bulletproof” nature by announcing three new tour dates in the US. Still feeding off the high energy from this year’s release of Security, Antibalas has two performances scheduled in New York City and one in Boulder, Colorado within the next three weeks.
Since its release on Anti- Records, Security has successfully introduced further unique sounds to the roughly decade-old collective. Antibalas, rolling about twelve deep, may be tough to musically categorize, but their diverse mix of funky afrobeat, jazz, and soul is proving to open new doors for artists and fans alike. The Brooklyn musicians, who have spent the past spring and summer touring both Europe and the US in promotion of Security, have earned their place far beyond the streets of New York.
But ever loyal to the place they call home, Antibalas are back in NYC, even though it is just for a couple of nights. The group’s Brooklyn performance will include musical guests The Exit, Be Your Own Pet, and Heartless Bastards.
