Dr. Cornel West to Release Second Album

The highly regarded professor of religion is back with another album of social commentary set to music.

Princeton professor and civil-right activist Dr. Cornell West, the author of Race Matters and Democracy Matters: Winning the Fight Against Imperialism, will have his second album of thoughts set to music released on June 19.

The album, titled Never Forget: A Journey of Street Revelations and to be released by Hidden Beach Recordings, was created with backing band 4 Black Men Who Mean Business. West primarily appears through spoken-word contributions, preaching on topics of environmental racism, poverty, universal health care, gay rights, corporate culpability, and more.

Though the music of Never Forget is a mixture of light funk, R&B, and elements of hip hop, “911” features West’s commentary over a pair of harmonious acoustic guitars. During the track, the esteemed professor discusses his theory that Caucasian Americans – following the World Trade Center attacks in 2001 – now feel fear comparable to that of African Americans in everyday life.

West will make appearances in June at the 100 Black Men Conference in Las Vegas on the 7th and during the WNBA All-Star Week on the 13th.
