Definitive Jux CEO and genre-expanding hip hop mastermind El-Producto, better known as El-P, will be featured as the live performer on Late Night with Conan O’Brien this evening.
After spending the five years following his solo debut, Fantastic Damage, running Definitive Jux and producing several of its critically acclaimed releases, El-P managed to find time to complete his much-anticipated sophomore album. I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead, released in March of this year and reviewed in ALARM’s forthcoming summer issue, has been lauded by many critics as a masterpiece and perhaps the best release from Definitive Jux to date.
El-P’s characteristic dystopian lyrics and complex delivery have been honed since his time with the ground-breaking hip hop group Company Flow in the early nineties, and I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead is a dark, unsettling analysis of the world today. His style has influenced other underground hip-hop artists, such as Aesop Rock and Mr. Lif, who are also among Definitive Jux’s impressive collection of “Jukies.”
Unless you want to regret it for the rest of your life, don’t miss El-P tonight, Monday, June 11, at 12:30 am ET on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
In the highly unlikely event that you have a good reason to miss this performance, you still have three chances to make up for it and see El-P live this month:
June 12: First Unitarian Church, Philadelphia, PA
June 13: Diesel Club Lounge, Pittsburgh, PA
June 15: Bonnaroo Festival, Manchester, TN
