Frank Black, who seems to lately be embracing dichotomy, has recorded a five-song session with his touring band exclusively for iTunes. This comes on the eve of the full-length release, due out in September, by his doppelganger Black Francis.
The iTunes tracks were recorded live earlier this summer in Luxembourg. Three of the five songs are covers and two are new, original songs under the Frank Black moniker.
The tracks include:
1. Re-Make/Re-Model (Roxy Music cover)
2. Massif Central
3. Manitoba
4. History Song (The Good, The Bad & The Queen cover)
5. The Black Rider (Tom Waits cover)
Bluefinger, the forthcoming Black Francis album, has already received favorable reviews from the British press, not to mention the ALARM staff. Though Pixies fans may be hoping that the return to the Black Francis title is indication of a similar sound, the new release, set for September 11, aims in a different direction.
The results? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see. Luckily, you’ve got some Frank Black to hold you over.
