Continuing their tradition of putting out singles whenever they feel like it, Canadian punks Fucked Up are celebrating this holiday season by releasing a festive seven-inch record called David Christmas. According to the band, the B-side of the record features a “very special Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa song” in which the hardcore quintet collaborates with some unlikely characters.
The list includes (deep breath):
Nelly Furtado
James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem)
Jay Reatard
Matt Sweeney
Jerry A. (Poison Idea)
Cole Alexander (Black Lips)
Davey Havok (AFI)
Kevin Peterson (What’s Your Rupture?)
Dave One (Chromeo)
Jason Green (Panthers/Orchid)
Mike Fellows (Rites of Spring)
Jacob Thiele (The Faint)
Faris Rotter (The Horrors)
Scott Vogel (Terror)
Shenae Grimes (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”)
Morag and Ursula
Trever Keith (Face to Face)
Dan Romano (Attack in Black)
Yes, that Nelly Furtado. The entire story could be bogus, but the band purports to have bumped into Furtado in the hall of a recording studio.
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what kinds of sounds this unholy union will yield, but all questions will be answered on December 15, when the band will throw a record release party at Sonic Boom Music in Toronto.
Proceeds from the event — which will feature Christmas songs and someone (vocalist Damian Abraham, aka Pink Eyes?) dressed as Santa Claus — go to George Herman House, a Canadian charity for mentally ill women. Fucked Up will release a new LP, The Chemistry of Common Life, sometime in 2008.
