Kidz in the Hall: School Was My Hustle

The first band signed to the reformed Rawkus Records, Kidz in the Hall is made up of MC and DJ duo Naledge and Double-O. These two have a penchant for old-school and golden-age hip hop, offering a refreshing sound and witty, intelligent lyrics and a throwback to the days for which ‘heads fiend.

School Was My Hustle has a little of something for everyone, including the get-off-your-ass (“Wassup Jo”), the Tribe-inspired (“Ms. Juanita”), and the introspective (“Hypocrite”). Naledge is a next generation emcee, using influences from the past with his own smooth flow and rewind button type rhymes. His voice may not be as distinct as Chuck D., but he channels the same penchant for spitting rhymes with purpose.

Beside Naledge is Double-O, lacing the album with head nodding and melodic beats, creating a varied and well-produced album. Overall, Kidz in the Hall provide substance and potential for the future of the game. I can envision Kidz in the Hall at the forefront of the new movement.
