My Bloody Valentine Confirms Reunion, Extra UK Shows for Sold-Out Cities

My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields has confirmed his influential band’s reunion and forthcoming album. The critically acclaimed group also announced 2008 UK tour dates — for which tickets went on sale today and already sold out in London, Manchester, and Glasgow — with All Tomorrow’s Parties.

Originally, three total performances were scheduled, but after the rapid demand for tickets, two additional shows in London (The Roundhouse) and one more in Manchester (Apollo) and Glasgow (Barrowland) have been added. Tickets are available at each venue’s box office and seetickets.com.

With their definitive album, Loveless (1991), the Irish-British quartet is considered one of the most influential band of the ’90s. Leading the shoegazing movement, the band is known for its warm sound of distortion, tremolo, and reverb. Their multi-layered guitar sound on debut release Isn’t Anything (1988) has been a major influence on newer bands.

Now, sixteen years after the band’s split, Shields has verified the circulating rumors about their reunion.

All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP) was created by Barry Hogan in 1999 and is a music festival curated by musicians and visual artists. The festival mostly leans towards post-rock, avant-garde, and underground hip hop. Artists are asked to invite their favorite performers to play for two or three days, mostly in the UK, but the music event has made its way a few times to the US. Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore describes it as “the ultimate mix tape.”
