Chicago hip-hop duo The Cool Kids will contribute a DJ set to the Style Wars mayhem. Tonight’s competition also includes a panel of judges comprised of local fashion figures; among them are Nick Cave, Chair of the fashion department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), local designer Agga B. Raya, and Lindsay Boland, founder of Habit and Superficial fashion boutiques.
Celebrity judges in the previous Style Wars cities have included Casey Spooner (1/2 of the band Fischerspooner), bad-mouth rapper Princess Superstar, and Shamim Momin, curator for the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Style Wars features eight contestants who must innovate and display garments using select vintage clothing, recycled materials from their environment, and audience members, all while under a time constraint.
The Chicago show closes the five-city Style Wars tour, which has already visited New York, San Fransisco, Miami, and Los Angeles. Prizes for the winner of Chicago’s Style Wars include $1000 in cash and prizes, as well as a chance to compete in New York at the Style Wars Grand Finale.
The show starts at 8 pm; tickets are $10 at the door.
