A Tribe Called Quest’s primary rhyme speaker will have his newest material issued in late summer or early fall.
Hip-hop wordsmith Q-Tip, the famous frontman of A Tribe Called Quest, currently is finishing work for his new solo album, The Renaissance.
The disc, which is being billed as a return to his hip-hop roots of the late 80s and early 90s, features appearances by Andre 3000 (Outkast), Common, and D’Angelo, and will be released on Motown/Universal Records in late summer or early fall.
He also spent Monday night in Manhattan for the world premiere of The Hip Hop Project, a documentary that is based on the story of a previously homeless teenager who inspired a group of New York City youngsters. Q-Tip acted as associate producer for the film, which has overturned its original R rating from the MPAA.
The Hip Hop Project will open nationwide in theaters on May 11.
