Riceboy Sleeps Announces First U.S. Exhibition

Riceboy SleepsBeginning Friday, August 3 at Gallery 801 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Icelandic musicians Jon Thor Birgisson of Sigur Rós and Alex Somers of Parachutes — collectively known as the art collaboration Riceboy Sleeps — will open their first exhibition in the United States.

The month-long event, which will feature the duo’s patented “window prints,” runs through September 7, 2007 and is comprised of eleven brand new, custom creations.

The pieces each include artwork inside old, rustic frames. And though Birgisson and Somers have already crafted fourteen such prints on display in Iceland, the two were persuaded to make entirely new material when Gallery 801 operator Joshua Varnedore found nearly a dozen cryptic frames in an abandoned school house.

The exhibit also includes an after party with a live premiere and exclusive material by atmospheric Tennessee two-piece band Hammock. Riceboy Sleeps released their self-titled first book, an embossed hardcover release limited to 1000 copies, in Iceland via Moss Stories last November. The book will be internationally released in 2007.
