Ropeadope to Issue Three-disc Set of Marco Benevento

One half of the Benevento Russo Duo will have live material issued as a post-mortem celebration of New York City jazz club Tonic.

Pianist Marco Benevento, one half of synth-centered jam-rock outfit Benevento Russo Duo, will have a three-disc live album released by Ropeadope on August 7.

The talented improvisationist spent a month at New York avant-garde/jazz club Tonic in November of 2006, alternating sets between solo performances and collaborations with other veterans of the scene. Included among the performances were a duo with bassist Mike Gordon (Phish), a trio with bassist Reed Mathis (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey) and drummer Matt Chamberlain (Critters Buggin), and a drum group with percussionists Mike Dillon (Critters Buggin, Garage a Trois), Joe Russo (Benevento Russo Duo), and Bobby Previte. Steven Bernstein of Sex Mob and Claude Coleman of Ween were among many other guests during the month.

Sadly, financial constraints caused Tonic to close its doors on April 13, 2007. Click here to watch a trailer of Marco Benevento live at Tonic. The Duo will be performing at the School of Rock Festival, the Allgood Festival, and Wicker Park Festival this summer.
