Chicago’s own Russian Circles, whose melodic yet crushing brand of instrumental rock has drawn praise from many sources, will finally have their 2006 album Enter released in the United Kingdom. And to celebrate that release, the quickly ascending group will be performing twice in London and once in Manchester in late August with high-profile prog rockers Tool.
Wait – didn’t we just mention Maynard James Keenan and company? We sure did. And as long as they keep selecting killer opening bands, we’ll continue.
The bummer regarding Russian Circles is that the three-piece outfit has canned plans of a three-week summer tour around the United States. The good news, however, is that the group will be spending the off time in July and August writing a new album.
And as for playing with great bands, Russian Circles will still be performing at Chicago’s Wicker Park Fest on July 29. The two-day festival begins on Saturday, July 28, runs from noon to 10 pm CT each day, and includes the likes of Prefuse 73 with a live band, Don Caballero, Benevento Russo Duo, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Man Man, and Oh My God, many of which have been covered in the pages of ALARM.
Russian Circles will also be performing at Robot Mosh Fest in Hartland, Wisconsin on June 29. The nearly all-metal extravaganza, which concludes on June 30, features Arsis, Cephalic Carnage, The Black Dahlia Murder, and He Who Corrupts.
