The Spice Girls, Rage Against the Machine, The Smashing Pumpkins — what does Small Brown Bike have in common with these groups? You guessed it: a 2007 reunion. But this post-punk indie rock band actually has a reason to get back together besides capitalizing on past achievement.
According to a statement on their website, Small Brown Bike will play their first pair of shows since 2004 to benefit a dear friend, who has spent the last five months in a hospital undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments to battle Leukemia. After a recent bone marrow transplant, their friend has been released from the hospital but is still only just beginning to recover.
To help, mark September 7th and 8th on your calendar and see Michigan’s Small Brown Bike play their first show in three years. The four-piece group is often mentioned in the same breath as contemporaries The Casket Lottery, who put out a split with Small Brown Bike in 2002 on Second Nature. Both are known for combining their post-hardcore sensibilities with a melodic, multi-vocal delivery.
Understandably, you might be worried that the three-year interim has left the musicians worse for the wear. Worry not! Each member has been staying in stride by joining other bands in the Chicago area, including LaSalle, The Great Sea Serpents, and A Love Dog.
