The Cinematic Orchestra Returns to North America

The Cinematic OrchestraThis September, Westerners will again have the chance to witness the sonically picturesque, occasionally improvisational nu-jazz and electronica outfit fittingly named The Cinematic Orchestra.

As the brain child of Jason Swinscoe, TCO blends a live band and turntablist with electronic elements. The outfit released concept album Ma Fleur on Ninja Tune Records this year (just last month in the US) and called it the soundtrack for an absent film. While creating the album, Swinscoe collaborated with a handful of vocalists that were given the script and music and told to immerse themselves in imagining the narrative.

The record was also released with a series of emotive photographs that act as a storyboard for the film. However, Ma Fleur raised eyebrows and many saw it as a departure from the much-loved, jazzy Everyday from 2002.

After TCO toured in support of the album, though, fans began to appreciate and reciprocate the level of intimacy on the new record. Just months after the tour’s success, Swinscoe is ready to be on the road once again, and has The Cinematic Orchestra playing dates over two weeks in North America.
