Young Widows, Modern Life is War to Tour Midwest

Young Widows, the noise-rock unit borne of Breather Resist, is preparing for a short tour with melodic hardcore outfit Modern Life Is War. The tour, mainly in the Midwest, was announced soon after news that Young Widows is working on the follow-up to its successful 2006 full-length, Settle Down City.

Formed after vocalist Steven Sindoni parted amicably with Breather Resist, Young Widows consists of the remaining members of the band, with Evan Patterson taking on Sindoni’s role in addition to playing guitar.

Their debut release, Settle Down City, was initially set to be the new Breather Resist album, but the band found that their sound had changed enough to warrant a new name. The reviews, ALARM’s among them, were generally enthusiastic, with many citing The Jesus Lizard and Shellac as apparent influences.

Patterson’s heavy guitar work may actually be congenital, considering his younger brother, Ryan Patterson, displays a comparable prowess as the vocalist and guitarist of Coliseum, a hardcore band from Louisville, Kentucky. Both brothers are also members of punk/hardcore band Black Cross and co-run Auxiliary Records.

Young Widows will appear in support of the Coliseum at their record release show for No Salvation, the hardcore trio’s Relapse Records debut that garnered praise from ALARM and is due August 31st.
