Opening March 15th at the Acuna-Hansen gallery in Los Angeles is the debut exhibit from bay area artist Shashana Chittle, Humaneyes. Grounded in Buddist mantras and karmic ties to George Harrison, Chittle fuses movement, mathematics, and metaphysics into the fabric of her work.
“I have this feeling that everything I need to know about being alive is available to me through my body”, cites Chittle, a pervasive perspective evident in her figurative imagery.
Some works take shape from intersecting points, complex geometrical games that expand into conversations on consciousness.
“I think the way I organize dots and lines to make these shapes is endemic to the way I organize information, like a symptom of this brain. I think we all have these patterns we fall into… Some are facts of matter and some are misunderstandings, dreams, habits… I’m trying to differentiate them.”
Other works, like Chittle’s life size dead dove, constructed of lead, aim to interpolate classic symbols. Humaneyes opens on March 15th.
