Boise Indie-rock outfit Built to Spill has confirmed that they will lend their distortion-dripping garage rock to Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker’s fourth annual Campout Festival, which takes place September 11-13 in Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, in Pioneertown, California. Located just a few miles from Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown is an Old West motion picture set where a number of movies and television shows were filmed, including The Cisco Kid.
Campout began four years ago when the members of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven decided to have a birthday celebration for a few of the members in both bands. Since, it has blossomed into a full-fledged festival, acquiring a number of supporting acts to lend a hand every year.
This year’s bands include such acts as Built To Spill (frontman Doug Martsch has cited Campter Van Beethoven as a major influence on his own band’s sound) and Quasi, as well as festival founders Cracker- who recorded their acclaimed Kerosene Hat in Pioneerville- and Camper Van Beethoven – who will be celebrating 25 years together as a band this summer. There will also be a number of various sets from the members of each band.
