Califone Enters Studio, plays FREE SHOW in Chicago TODAY!

Chicago’s experimental folk darlings, Califone are scheduled to play a free show at the Pritzker Pavilion today at noon as part of Millenium Park’s popular lunchtime music series.

Formed in 1997 by frontman Tim Rutilli, a former member of of Red Red Meat (who recently reunited for a special performance at Sub Pop’s 20th Anniversary), Califone has capitivated fans with their eclectic sound which blends influences as diverse as Appalaichian folk, blues, and electronic noise.

The four-piece is in the process of recording the follow up to 2006’s critically praised Roots and Crowns (Thrill Jockey). The album won’t be released until 2009, but we have our fingers crossed in hopes that the band might preview some of their new material this afternoon.

Either way, we guarantee this show will totally beat the pants off the Muzak at Panera.
