To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Merge Records, which has brought us the likes of Arcade Fire and Spoon, is releasing a box set throughout 2009. The limited quantity, which includes special artwork and packaging, is only available to those who subscribe to it first on the label’s special purchase website.
Although the track lists are TBD, the albums will each by compiled by a celebrity line-up. The first 2 of 14 discs will be arranged by Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Phil Morrison, director of Junebug, The Upright Citizens Brigade and numerous music videos.
Also included is a disc of non-Merge artists playing their favorite tracks from the Merge catalog as well as a disc full of Merge remixes.
