Norway’s Shining Begin First US Tour Next Week

shining2.jpgAs part of their first appearance in the United States, Norwegian jazz/prog-rock outfit Shining will perform at Chicago’s Empty Bottle on Tuesday, March 11. This is a rare opportunity to catch the group live, and the ticket price is a steal ($8 in advance, $10 at the door)!

Grindstone, Shining’s newest album released on Rune Grammofon, further transitioned the group from a post-bop jazz quartet to a masterful progressive rock ensemble. Led by writer and multi-instrumentalist Jørgen Munkeby, Shining fuse cinematic soundscapes with complex time signatures and rock riffs. Munkeby is formerly of Jaga Jazzist, an experimental jazz group that he joined at the age of 16.

The performance comes as part of a mini-tour that hits New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin for SXSW. There’s no telling when Shining will be back in the US, so get out and see them next week!

March 11 – Chicago, IL @ The Empty Bottle, 10:00 PM
