Ever notice how the most of the best (non-local) shows in Chicago during the winter feature bands from the South? My first couple of years in town I assumed that it was because nobody bothered telling them how disgusting and miserable winter could be. I was wrong.

Dälek and Russian Circles Live in Chicago
The pairing of heavy rock instrumentalists Russian Circles and experimental hip-hop duo Dälek might seem to be a mismatched live bill for genre purists. However, since both groups are known for their intense live shows and for pushing the boundaries of their respective genres, it is more of a meeting of musical kindred spirits. Last Tuesday was the kick-off of a touring cycle that brings the two groups together on tour (along with energetic noise-rockers Young Widows) for series of shows until March 2.

The Music Biz Wins For Once P2P Users Beware; The Sherrif Just Got a Brand New Gun and it’s Aimed at YOU
You may have heard about the RIAA’s recent major victory in court. Although over 20,000 lawsuits have been filed by the RIAA against people who file share music, only one, so far, has made it to a court room. Everyone else had the good sense to settle out of court for a few grand.
But Jammie Thomas, 30, a single mother from Brainerd, Minnesota, says she was wrongfully targeted by SafeNet, the RIAA’s net detective that patrols the Internet for illegal file sharing.
Weekly Burlesque: Sex Worker’s Art Show Riles ‘Em Up
I wanted to go on the Sex Workers’ Art Show Tour this year, as I did last year, but I withdrew my application because I also wanted to stay and work on the new space for the School of Burlesque. It was a tough choice because SWAS means more than a lot to me, but I’ve been getting lots of calls and messages from the road that make me feel almost like I’m in two places at once. Love is good stuff. I can’t be there now so I’m really putting myself into this blog post to establish my undying affection and solidarity for my peeps on the road.

Is Print Dead? Or Does It Just Smell Funny?
If you are like me, you have a life long love affair with print in all it’s manifestations—books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels, comics books, posters, drink coasters—in short, anything you can feed through a press and slap some ink on can be the object of this affection.
With the rise of the web and “new” media, newspapers and magazines are shrinking from reduced ad revenues and circulation. The venerable Punk Planet has folded, publishers of every stripe struggle to break even, and kids spend the majority of their reading time online, instant messaging and the like.
