Producer Extraordinaire Jon Brion Releases “Croatia” Streamer

Like many behind-the-scenes songwriters, Jon Brion is better known by music than by name. Much of his musical legacy is known through beautiful accompaniments for songs by Fiona Apple and Aimee Mann as well as scores for Paul Thomas Anderson films.

Like many behind-the-scenes songwriters, Jon Brion is better known by music than by name. Much of his musical legacy is known through beautiful accompaniments for songs by Fiona Apple and Aimee Mann as well as scores for Paul Thomas Anderson films.

But yesterday, Brion posted a new tune on his MySpace page called “Croatia.” It’s a fun little number that carries a bit of Balkan flavor, even though Brion says that “the title does not reflect an intimate knowledge of Croatian music.”

It’s nice to hear something new crop up online, especially given that his career has always lacked true solo material, with the major exception being a straight-ahead pop album called Meaningless from 2001. Check out Brion’s MySpace page to hear “Croatia.”
