Ten years ago, DJ/producer Peanut Butter Wolf started Stones Throw Records after the death of his partner DJ Charizma. PB Wolf abandoned their commitment to a Disney subsidiary music label, who promised him a role in Sister Act 2, and chose “My World Primiere,” Charizma’s posthumous single, to launch the label.
Now PB Wolf has assembled a follow-up to the label’s introductory video compilation. Its title, In Living the True Gods, is a line borrowed from Madvillain’s “Accordion,” seen for the first time in the new DVD collection. In Living the True Gods is a time-capsule retrospective and includes many unreleased and lo-fi gems, like “Studio Time 92,” VHS documentary footage of Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf in 1992.
The video also includes Quasimoto’s animated surrealist video “Bullyshit,” an interview with the late J Dilla, and J Dilla’s last appearance on film in MED’s “Push.”
