With The Apples in Stereo‘s latest release, Electronic Projects for Musicians, now a few months old, the Apples are ready to hit the road in support of the b-sides and rarities disc. In addition to revealing a slue of summer dates (see below), the Apples have also announced that they will close out their summer tour with a special musical performance on Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report,” August 4. Though this is the first “Colbert Report” appearance for the Apples, it is a welcomed return for Robert Schneider who performed the song, “Stephen, Stephen” to honor the show’s host, Stephen Colbert, in December 2006. Schneider also revealed that he will be making his movie debut this summer with his cover of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” being featured on the soundtrack of Mike Myer’s latest film, The Love Guru, which opens June 20th. Schneider also got the nod for an on-screen cameo in the film, in which he performs the song alongside Kentucky bluegrass band, The McKendrees, during a bar brawl scene.
