What We’re Doing This Weekend: Saturday

Saturday, December 13

Everthus the Deadbeats @ Beat Kitchen

Belting out epic pop/rock numbers with a touch of glam, Everthus the Deadbeats is reminiscent of Electric Light Orchestra (but without as many mind-shattering falsettos). And that’s great, because “Don’t Bring Me Down” was one of the finest songs to come out of late 1970s pop radio.

This show is part of a brief set of Midwest shows for Everthus the Deadbeats, which is based a few scant hours away in Indianapolis. Check out its video for “Organics Mechanics” below.

Chicago Afrobeat Project @ The Morse

The unambiguously named Chicago Afrobeat Project has a reputation for being able to throw down on the live stage, which is the ideal means of presentation for its combination of funk, R&B, jazz, and traditional African sounds.

It’s only $12 to see the band at the swanky, newly remodeled digs of The Morse (which, if you live in Chicago, is seconds from the red line’s Morse Avenue stop). The group will have its new EP in hand, and Seckou Conde’s Djembe Trio opens with propelling rhythms from its percussive African instruments.
