The Art Institute of Chicago opened its Modern Wing on Saturday, May 16, housing world-renowned collections of European painting and sculptures, architecture and design, photography, and contemporary art.
After a decade of planning and building, the Art Institute of Chicago will be the second-largest art museum in the country with the addition of The Modern Wing. Renzo Piano, a winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize and architect and designer of The Modern Wing, was present at the opening ceremony that hosted music, performances, food, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Admission is free for the first week, May 16-22.
