dzine-simply_beautiful-1280x1024

Through February 21, Chicago-based artist Dzine’s latest work can be seen on display at Bass Museum of Art in Miami. A former graffiti artist, his latest work comes in the form of a site-specific project comprising of wallpaper, objects and sound.

Dzine’s style manifests itself in bright colors, patterns, textures and sound that show all of his influences from street-art, op-art and Chicano “low-rider” culture. He has been able to stretch the boundaries of his genre through the use of objects rarely, if ever, used like neon lights, precious stones and motorized machinery.

Loyalty, a three wheel, motorized, low-rider bicycle shows his ability to stretch boundaries best. It is customized with 23kt gold, pure silver leaf, Swarvoski crystals, suede, enamel and velvet among other things.

On the other hand, black. moon. sun. rising, is a wall installation of acrylic paint, crystalline and resin on wood, showing the other, less glitzy, side to Dzine addressing of culture through spirituality, beauty, desire and identity.
