Canadian metal group Divinity has confirmed its first live-performance dates promoting its new album, The Singularity, through parts of Canada, but it looks like fans in the States will have to wait a little longer.
Divinity succeeds its 2008 album, Allegory (Nuclear Blast), with a continuation of its melodic death/thrash metal, calling upon a bit of Meshuggah with dueling, rapid-fire guitar exchanges. High-pitched screams and forceful growls are paired with surprisingly tight and melodically comprehensive vocals amid unpredictable rhythms with shifting time signatures.
The album explores topics of mindless consumerism and survival in the midst of adversity, but it also turns toward themes such as the chaos of existence and humanity’s battle against technology.
Due for release on August 10, The Singularity is the band’s first album under Candlelight Records. Guitarist Sacha Laskow describes the album: “We spent a year locked in the studio perfecting the album and are extremely proud with the results. It’s a snapshot of where we are in time with all the influences [that] the different songwriters bring to the table coming together under one theme.”
