Representing a random sampling of ambiguous pop-culture references, Tyler Cufley unveils his latest work at NEXT, the Invitational Exhibition of Emerging Art in Chicago.
Exhibiting at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart from April 30 to May 3, the Seattle-based artist references fine-art trends and demonstrates his “command over the media.” Utilizing found imagery, swathes of transparent color, and strict formalism, Cufley produces eye-catching geometric sculptures and paintings.
Cufley’s Untitled (three point blue), created using acrylic on canvas, illustrates a 2-D structure of vivid colors gravitating towards a vortex with a gouache wash. Using the aforementioned formalism, the multimedia artist incorporates found images collected online.
NEXT is a platform developed to showcase the world’s talent and adventure in progressive culture. Including commercial and non-commercial art organizations, NEXT attempts to “redefine the relationship between arts and its public.”
