Iconic saxophonist Fred Anderson, an important figure of the free-jazz movement of the 1960s, has passed away at the age of 81. He helped found the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1965, and his Velvet Lounge in Chicago is an important home to jazz musicians and improvisers.
