Megan Washington)” (Hidden Orchestra Remix)]Known for his work in funk/soul band The Bamboos, Melbourne-based producer Lance Ferguson is set to release his second solo album of electronic pop as Lanu. The album, titled Her 12 Faces, is gaining steam abroad behind the strength of its first single, “Beautiful Trash,” which features vocals by Australian pop star Megan Washington. It’s about as buoyant and catchy as a pop song can get — meaning that it’s poised to be the perfect summer jam when the album is released in the US in April.
But today, ALARM has an exclusive remix of “Beautiful Trash” by Scottish band (and Tru Thoughts label mate) Hidden Orchestra for your listening enjoyment. It takes the track into slightly darker territory with a sinister, grinding beat, echoing synths, and disco-cinematic strings. It’s a multi-layered affair that recalls a James Bond soundtrack. Intrigue. Drama. Elegance. And what sounds like trash-can percussion near the end is a fittingly literal take on the song’s title.
