On his first official release for Ninja tune, Vienna-based electronic artist Dorian Concept (real name: Oliver Thomas Johnson) builds on the momentum from his head-turning contribution to the label’s 20th-anniversary box set. That track, “Her Tears Taste Like Pears,” is now the centerpiece of Concept’s new EP of the same name, a bass-heavy, four-track release that showcases his nimble, jazz-like synth manipulations.

It says a great deal about Concept’s skill level that a video that he posted, casually labeled as “fooling around,” has surpassed half a million views on YouTube. This past weekend, Concept joined fellow bass masters Kode 9, Appleblim, Lone, and more in Unsound Festival New York: Bass Mutations — his first US performance. Listen to a cut from the EP released today and keep this rising talent on your radar.
