The cutting-edge ’80s return in PVT’s video for “Nightfall”

With a photo-negative aesthetic by way of a Commodore 64 and Tron, the video for PVT’s "Nightfall" is a beautiful '80s-tinged throwback.

PVT: Nightfall single (Warp, 10/16/12)

With a photo-negative aesthetic by way of a Commodore 64 and Tron, the video for PVT’s “Nightfall” has an industrial-tinged beat with a backing thread that sounds like it was composed on a vintage Korg MS-10.

On the heels of the strange, looping sounds of first single “Shiver,” “Nightfall” is less a left turn than a lane change. Driving where “Shiver” was relaxed, vocally clear where it was distorted, “Nightfall” falls into the same sense of tribute throwback as that track but has a more powerful, darker feel. The video, directed by Jennifer Juniper Stratford, gets that sense of beauty and threat across.
