Today, Chicago indie-rock gem On Again Off Again has released its debut full-length, Acres, via one of the city’s newest music collectives, Yes Club.
OAOA began in 2008 as a duo, with singer Mike Winegardner and The Like Young drummer Amanda Townsend, crafting stripped-down indie pop. With Townsend no longer in the mix, Winegardner drafted his high-school jazz-band buddies. Adding another songwriter to the group, this eventually transformed OAOA’s sound with deeply reverberated, ’60s guitar tones and layered pop vocals, all bound by imaginative songwriting.
Check out the video below for the album’s first single, “Gemini.” Pick up the record here or at iTunes, and if you’re in Chicago, the band’s record-release show is this Thursday, March 1 at Subterranean with Musikanto and Chaperone.
