Ghosts in Glass Houses: Julianna Barwick haunts in live video for “Offing”

Julianna Barwick’s musical style lies somewhere between the collective voice of a choir and what the ghost of a pod of whales might sound like. Consisting of loops and wordless vocalizations that recall a higher-pitched cousin of throat singing, it’s a decidedly unique listening experience.

The singer recently teamed up with the Philip Johnson Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, as part of its Night Sounds series. Night Sounds pairs a musician with a particular piece from its exhibition Night, a rotating series of sculptures. Barwick was teamed with Doola by artist Ken Price and performed “Offing,” from her presently untitled upcoming album.
