Killer cratedigging: Finding tunes is sinister business in “Alto” video by Chile’s Como Asesinar a Felipes

In its video for "Alto," cratedigging takes a wicked turn with Como Asesinar a Felipes — a risk-taking Chilean outfit that dabbles in jazzy hip-hop fusion.

Como Asesinar a Felipes: Comenzará de Nuevo (Koolarrow, 4/9/13)

Chilean band Como Asesinar a Felipes is making its worldwide debut April 9. Comenzará de Nuevo, its fourth album, is dropping on Billy Gould’s (Faith No More) Koolarrow Records, and if the video for “Alto” is anything to go by, the band’s brand of jazzy hip-hop fusion is something on which to keep an eye.

“Alto” seems at first like a mild-mannered depiction of the joy of cratedigging, the dusty experience of shuffling through the bins of a record shop, looking for that rare treat. However, when one patron grabs something particularly toothsome, things turn sinister, with the twitching raps, sitar cuts, and quasi-kraut rock of Como Asesinar a Felipes soundtracking the entire thing.
