Melvins, Hella, Why?, Rob Crow share new tracks for Joyful Noise flexi-disc subscription

Subscription-style releases have boomed lately, with the popularity of websites like Kickstarter and Quarterly Co. acting as convenient tools. In 2013, Joyful Noise Recordings joins the action with a yearlong slate of flexi-disc releases from kick-ass bands.

The flexi-discs (square, paper-thin pieces of one-sided vinyl) are limited to 1,000 and arrive monthly, with subscribers being able to pay in installments or all at once. The subscription itself is $5 per month, and for $30 extra, you get a hand-numbered wooden box (with art by Mackie Osborne, shown below) in which to stash the whole glut.

In (mostly) alphabetical order, this year’s bands include Birthmark, Helvetia w/members of Built to Spill, Hella, Here We Go Magic, Melvins, Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Monotonix, Rob Crow, Son LuxSufjan Stevens & Cat Martino, The Sea and Cake, and Why?
