Free Moral Agents: “Ageless” (Hudson Mohawke Remix)
Funky, prog- and dub-influenced rock group Free Moral Agents started out as a solo project for keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens of The Mars Volta. Through performance, collaboration, and touring, the group evolved into its current six-piece format, which features the gentle vocals of Mendee Ichikawa.
Keeping in the spirit of collaboration, the group had super-producer Hudson Mohawke remix its 2010 track “Ageless” for its upcoming EP, Chaine Infinie, which is out April 16. Condensing its original eight-minute running time into a little over two might seem like blasphemy, but Mohawke turns the mid-tempo jam into an upbeat, minimalist throwback, recalling the recent ’80s-inspired work of M83 and Cliff Martinez.
