No-good skate punks: The White Mandingos “Warn a Brotha” about touring life

Last month, The White Mandingos dropped a debut LP, The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me, that combined the influences of all its members (racially charged rap from MURS and hardcore punk from Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer and journalist Sacha Jenkins). The result was heavy and raw, with snappy rhymes and hard-hitting riffs that directly tackled topics of race and identity and pulled no punches.

The group has a new video for “Warn a Brotha,” which not-so-subtly deals with signing with major record labels, touring, and coming home to a different world. The action might seem pretty straightforward — a group of skaters up to no good — but factor in MURS’s voice coming from a white kid and the group’s themes of racial alienation and the video takes on a new level.
