The world’s largest natural audio library is now online…for free

With over 150,000 samples now completely digitzed, Cornell University's Macaulay Library of natural recordings promises to be a heaven of animal audio for musicians, audiophiles and nature lovers alike.

Cornell University, and particularly the Cornell Ornithology Lab’s Macaulay Library, has reached a milestone. The entirety of its audio library, more than 7,513 hours and 150,000 samples, has been digitized and placed online, creating a heaven of natural noises for naturalists and found-sound aficionados alike.

Combing through it, it’s easy to see how attractive it could become to musicians. With a single click, you can pull up any animal, along with a list of various sounds and videos corresponding to different behaviors. Here are a few of our favorites.
