Wander the cosmos with Titles’ take on celestial circus music

"Carousel," a track from Titles’ swan song, is brimming with jangly arpeggios, wandering slide guitar, and the robotic drone of an organ.

Titles: Modern Sounds in Science Fiction (Safety Meeting, 5/14/13)

“Looked into the carousel lost in space / like a raft between two mighty waves,” sings Titles front-man Brad Amorosino on “Carousel.” All similes and metaphors aside, it’s a pretty accurate description of what the track sounds like — jangly arpeggios, wandering slide guitar, and the robotic drone of an organ. “Carousel” is one of the more interesting cuts from Titles’ fourth LP, titled Modern Sounds in Science Fiction, which is also set to be its final album.

One might expect the tracks from a swan song LP to be a melancholy affair, but “Carousel” doesn’t shy from being as jaunty and colorful as its namesake. At the two-and-a-half-minute mark, the sound changes drastically, mellowing out and emphasizing the “lost in space” lines even more.
