Experimental chamber pop band 2 Foot Yard has announced the release of its sophomore album, Borrowed Arms, set for release on March 4, 2008. For every Borrowed Arms album sold in the US, the band will donate $0.50 to Food Change in Harlem, New York City as well as the Canyon School organic gardening project in Canyon, CA.

The unique, boundary-crossing sounds of 2 Foot Yard are created from an equally disparate collection of musicians, namely Carla Kihlstedt (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Book of Knots, Tin Hat) on violin and vocals, Marika Hughes (Charming Hostess) on cello and vocals, and Shahzad Ismaily (Secret Chiefs 3, Marc Ribot) on drums, percussion, and guitar.

2 Foot Yard got its start as a Kihlstedt solo album released on Tzadik. Its graceful blend of acoustic, pop, classical, and rock sounds led to the creation of the trio, which will self-release Borrowed Arms.

In addition to penning another album, the group hopes to raise awareness of sustainable agriculture efforts and hunger in the U.S. through the charitable donations of the album sales.

The band invites everyone to get a sneak peak of the new album at its MySpace page, where it recently added a couple of the upcoming album’s tracks. Borrowed Arms is available to preorder on the page for a limited time, and all early patrons receive an autographed copy of the album before its release in March.
