Jherek Bischoff: Composed (Brassland, 6/5/12)
Jherek Bischoff’s solo album Composed (which we called “immaculately arranged orchestral pop”) was recorded by layering and cutting together single musicians recorded in their living rooms, over his own previously recorded parts. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, however, Bischoff was able to organize a concert at New York’s Merkin Hall with a full backing orchestra.
Working with Wordless Music Orchestra and guests David Byrne, Mirah, Greg Saunier, and others, Bischoff performed his then-upcoming album while recording the entire set in a sold-out opener for the Ecstatic Music Festival. Bischoff has since gone on tour, currently opening for and performing with Amanda Palmer. (See his dates here and read his response to the Palmer “volunteer musicians” brouhaha here.)
Directed by Jordan Kinley, here, from that well-received performance, is Bischoff and the Wordless Music Orchestra performing “Blossom,” a stirring pop number with a George Gershwin-like outro.
