Tattoo Nation documentary traces the evolution of black-and-gray ink

Chances are that you or someone you know has a tattoo. Statistics say that one-third of adults under 40 have at least one, and, as this writer can tell you, they become addictive. But tattoos weren’t always the greatly detailed portraits and canvases you see now. Pre-drawn designs, or flash, was it. So what changed?

That’s what new documentary Tattoo Nation sets out to explain. Directed by Eric Schwartz and narrated by LA Ink artist Corey Miller, it traces the black-and-gray medium’s evolution from prisons to the skin of the nation. Featuring interviews with notable inked people and artists including Danny Trejo, Travis Barker, Mister Cartoon, Ed Hardy, and more, the film is premiering March 28 in Hollywood, then hitting theaters nationwide on April 4 and 10th for special screenings.
